Silicon Carbide

The silicon carbide known as carborundum has CSI formula, is a ceramic material with a high intermediate hardness between diamond and corundum on the Mohs scale.

The material is hard and resistant and is not attached by acids or alkali. In contact with the air it covers itself with a protective coating made of silicon dioxide.

Silicon carbide has unique characteristics such as high melting point, excellent oxidation resistance, high chemical inertness, high thermal conductivity, high mechanical strength. And, it’s used in the non-ferrous metal foundry, heat treatment and precious metals.

Silicon carbide ceramics with low impurities maintain their resistance at very high temperatures, up to 1600 ° C.
